We thank those of you who support the Asheville Community Band monetarily.  Because of your generosity, we are able to award a combination of scholarships to young talented musicians who are pursuing a college degree in music education as well as to younger musicians who wish to improve their skills at summer music camp.   Your donations help ensure the continuance of concert band music not only for our group but for young musicians all over Western North Carolina. Details and applications are found below! Don’t delay, get started today!

The Summer Music Camp scholarships are given to middle or high school students so they can attend the excellent Mars Hill University Summer Music Camp, or an equivalent music camp.  This scholarship includes full or part time monies for: tuition, optional campus housing, activities, meals, etc.  The winners of the music camp scholarships will be announced at the Asheville Community Band’s Memorial Day concert in May 2019.

In addition to summer music camps, the Band awards two $2000 college scholarships annually.

The Patricia L. Garren scholarship is given in honor of the band’s founding director.

The Asheville Community Band Music Education Scholarship will be given in memory of Ralph Campbell, a long-standing Asheville Community Band member and board member. Ralph passed away in February of 2019 and was a loyal Asheville Community Band member since 1983. He met his wife, Marilyn, at Asheville Community Band and they married in 1984. Marilyn continues to play in the Asheville Community Band today, and she takes part in band organizational activities including inviting members of retirement homes to our concerts.

The band gave its first college scholarship in 1998 and since then has awarded more than $40,000.00 in scholarships. The awards are presented each year during the band’s Spring concert in March (this year March 17).
